I’m just curious if it would be possible to add video documentation to the documentation.
In particular it would be great to see documentation on how to go from having a virtualmin full backup to setup cloudmin with networking and a KVM on a single server and then loading the backup to the KVM.
I was going to create a video but I’m glad I did not as I learned that my configuration is technically improper so it would be excellent to see how this is accomplished so there is not two DNS servers.
It would also be nice because it would be cool to see how networking is setup proper the Host DNS etc… There is a lot that goes on in this process that should be done properly and the documentation is not adaquate to provide this.
This is the most common upgrade path a user would adopt they would go from using virtualmin to using cloudmin setup a KVM and load their backup of virtualmin to the KVM after installing the Virtualmin Script.
A video from start to finish would be a nice modern approach to documentation as the documentation has grown so large and there are so many iterations of it available that it is more confusing than my support ticket
I would really love to know the upgrade path to set things up proper. Seeing as how I have things improperly configured.
We shouldn’t stop there modern video documentation should accompany may aspects of MIN software. Yes I get it it is work but there are times when the documentation needs more than a basic interpreter the language is not clear.
I know @Ilia was at one point making some videos, though I think there just hasn’t been a whole of time to put towards this task as other things like keeping the products updated, and answering support tickets have taken the priority as of late.

Yeah I do think it might be helpful to alleviate some support issues to modernize with videos.
The documentation here is fabulous in honesty if you find the right documentation searching on google that is. There is documentation for stuff in so many locations some of it is great some of it not so great. Partially my fault though I should have logged on to virtualmin.com and clicked the documentation link instead. Ahhh well when stuff goes south you normally hit google you know how it is. Sometimes you wind up at serverfault or wherever but when you search for like cloudmin documentation it leaves out the webmin documentation its not as clear at times confusing when reading it.
There are some things I’d love to get straight though I’d hate to provide improper documentation and spend all the time doing video mainly with the upgrade path so you upgrade properly and bind isn’t left with primary and secondary servers more or less while running cloudmin/virtualmin KVM setup.
The upgrade path I feel is what causes it but I’m not entirely sure maybe I caused it quite possibly. I’m trying to get a straight answer there to understand precisely what happened as I do not recall I know it was a wild one setting up cloudmin on debian12 but I managed to get it done with a bit of fenaggling.
The documentation on the site is cleanly laid out, covers most topics and is being updated regularly. If something is missing, feel free to let us know.
Setting the gateway as the networks router IP in cloudmin documentation for setting up the network should at least be included if I remember right I was reading it and it sounded like I needed to use the server IP as the gateway and setup the server according to that now in some cases this may be true on other cases maybe not.
The upgrade path to Cloudmin with a restore of the virtualmin setup on a KVM done in a manner to prevent having a secondary DNS server would be nice I presume but I’m not entirely sure if it was the software that caused the issue or me like I say memory is not serving me correctly.
But that is the obvious upgrade path and if the software is restoring wrong and setting up the DNS servers so there are two. Maybe there was an option that I ignored while restoring it is possible already to not have bind configured on a restore and I skipped past it but possibly if it exists already maybe it would be good to include that in the cloudmin setup documentation. Like if doing restores don’t skip over this or you will wind up with a secondary bind server. Yeah been trying to get that info I know I could reinstall everything and get my answer but I’ve been messing with this dang thing for so long and over looked the simple thing thinking the problem was more complex than it was. So yeah.
Is there documentation on how to properly change your SOA record errr I’ll have to look and see on that one.
I’m really not sure they are worth all the effort (not a viewer personally) the documentation is pretty good enough. Then there is always the language problem.
what does a video actually add - smiling face, flappy hands.
Videos for getting started and overviews are really helpful and can be a selling tool.
But not them pastel videos staring people with giants smiles and IQs of plants where they tell you how great their product is but never tell you anything about it. I hate these videos.
