I have installed Ubuntu 8.04 with Webmin and Virtualmin.
I have installed PhPMy Admin with Webmin.
I have installed Apache with Webmin.
All running ok but when I go to http://localhost
I get IT Works
now that is working
But when I go to http://localhost/test/ I get a list of all this files in that folder!
If I click on the index file or any file .php it asks me to save it or to open with!
it loads html file ok (displays them ok in browser firefox)
Once you have a Virtual Server, you’ll have a dir such as “/home/USERNAME/public_html”. Any files in that public_html directory become part of your website.
So, actually performing the installation is a matter of following the phpMyAdmin installation instructions, but you’d want to put it somewhere within the public_html dir.
You can find the download link and installation instructions on the phpMyAdmin site:
Well, that’s one of the reasons some folks enjoy the Pro version of Virtualmin so much… it makes installation of things like phpMyAdmin simple and seamless One click, and it’s done!
However, I did some searching on Google, and came up with this wiki link here that contains phpMyAdmin installation instructions:
Hi so to get on and be able to install my test websites and learn a lot more but be easier for me you would say to get the Pro Version ?? that way It would do it all for me??
Well, first off, the link you shared above is for Cloudmin, not Virtualmin… if you do end up purchasing Virtualmin Pro, make sure you buy Virtualmin and not Cloudmin
You can see a list of differences between the GPL and Pro versions of Virtualmin here:
The thing that you might be particularly interested in are the “Install Scripts”. There’s 80+ web apps available that you can install just by clicking a button, which makes it all super-easy.
Hi,
Thanks again so I will be able to install and run websites for testing and also host them If I desided to do that later when I have picked your brains
I have had a look and if I deside to buy Virtualmin Pro were can I get this as I cant see were ??? am I missing something or just looking to hard??
Thanks again so I will be able to install and run websites for testing and also host them
Well, just to clarify – you can host websites and such using the GPL version of Virtualmin. The Pro version comes with some additional features, and tries to make your life a bit simpler by doing some of the hard parts for you.
Nuts… yeah, sometimes some clowns go in there and break things. I believe it’s setup to fix itself every few hours. You might just want to try again in a bit.
one final question I need the Zend engine to work on this does this have this plugin or script to get this to work?
The Zend engine will work, though there’s unfortunately no plugin/script to do that for you. So that one would need to be installed manually.
HI Eric,
Thanks again for your quick replys. I think that I will go with it and just get the Pro version that way as you say It will be easier and i can always ask for help if needed?
As for the zend engine I would just need to know were a few things are installed?? Apatche and php directorys I think… Can you assist with this?
Sorry just new to linux so lots to learn…
I think that I will go with it and just get the Pro version that way as you say It will be easier and i can always ask for help if needed?
Sounds good! Again, it does come with a money back guarantee, so if you’re unhappy, simply say so and you’ll be reimbursed the purchase cost.
As far as Support goes – officially, what you can expect help with is Virtualmin and the related things it sets up. If something Virtualmin sets up doesn’t work, let us know! If you’re not sure where to find something, we’ll help you figure out where it is. You can also make bug reports and feature requests. If you’re working with Virtualmin and come up with an idea that you’d like to see in it – let us know! Jamie is pretty responsive to those sorts of things
While we can’t fully administer all aspects of your system for you, we also want you to see you succeed. So if you have questions, just ask away and we’ll do our best to help
I’m not familiar with what’s involved as part of the installation of Zend… if it’s installer is asking you questions you don’t know the answer to, go ahead and ask here. I unfortunately don’t know off the top of my head how to go about installing it though.
While you could uninstall your current copy, an even simpler way to getting going with the Pro version would be to have it perform an in-place upgrade. There should be an option for upgrading Virtualmin on the bottom-left of the navigation menu when you log into Virtualmin.
