Webmin 2.500 side bar menu disappeared after upgrade

SYSTEM INFORMATION
Ubuntu 24.04.3
Webmin version 2.5

I recently (this morning) upgraded one of my servers to Webmin 2.5. after the upgrade the menu list on the sidebar disappeared. The only way I seem to be able to re-establish it is if I go into themes and hit save…but that workaround isn’t persistent. I tried a few things like clearing the cache and looking at what might be toggled differently in the configuration menu but I didn’t see anything that stands out as being off. I have to assume, at that point, that it’s a bug. Any better way to fix this other than waiting for 2.5.1. If not, when is 2.5.1 due?

My sidebar disappears if the window isn’t wide enough. If you maximize the window, does that help?

No. The sidebar width remains the same as it initially was prior to upgrade. It’s just all the items disappeared except for the bottom toggle buttons.

OK. I misread it. Are you using the default theme? I think that is Authentic for Virtualmin but I don’t know for a Webmin standalone app.

I’m using default

I did the same update today with no problems at all, you did click the notice at the bottom of the screen to refresh the authentic theme ? But things to try a different browser to see if the problem persists

I did refresh the theme. I’ll try on a different browser but i’m not seeing how the different browser will correct things

When I worked at a web development shop they kept different machines for the sole purpose of testing different browser/platform combinations to ensure they worked across the board.

I’m using Chrome but I’ll try a different one. The weird thing is that I have 7 servers running webmin which I access through Webmin server index. I upgraded the software on the first machine and that’s when i saw the issue. I haven’t upgraded webmin on the other machines and they all display fine.

I’m not saying there isn’t a glitch in the code. ‘We’ are just trying to narrow things down here. From what Joe says, Webmin has been Jamie’s, mostly, one man project for 3 decades so ‘we’ need to help where we can.

Since this thread started I have upgraded 3 servers to this version of webmin, all with no issuses, so I don’t think there is a code glitch else I would have found it. I’m using the same OS as the OP so we can discount that. I have even upgraded to this version of webmin on a virtualmin system and still no errors. This makes me wonder why the OP is getting the issue when I don’t have it  in 3 production webmin controlled system and 1 staging server with virtualmin installed with the webmin repro added to get this version

Jim thanks for the effort. I really hate being the problem child. I love Webmin. I’ve been using it for years.
So, due to your post, I went back and relooked at everything. It still responds as described. To flourish it a little more, on the sidebar I have exactly one setting icon for Mail Preferences and below that the little buttons for the bar, light and dark theme toggle …logout. The only way I’ve been able to get all the menus is to open theme configuration and hit save. Again, this is for Webmin 2.5 with theme 25.0. That said, what logs etc can I post to help track it down?

This does seem like a theme issue rather than a webmin issue but to be sure switch the theme away from authentic and see if everything shows up. You have cleared the theme cache I guess so we can discount that

Yep. Definitely a theme issue. I reset the theme to framed and everything seemed to work. where should I post this issue if it’s a theme issue with authentic theme 25.0?

I just tried out upgrading on three other machines. They all seem to have the same issue. Not initially. Only if I go out and come back in. theme defaults to dark and the menu disappears.

I’ll try that .. tbf I have not logged out
Edit just tried logging out and logging in again .. it still works as expected maybe @Ilia can shed some light on this issue ?

Can you show a screenshot, please?

Before shot. 3 of 4 machine exactly the same behavior. i access those machines via webmin server index. The 4th machine, the one I initially log in to shows the menu…but all have defaulted to dark theme which I can change to light but the change doesn’t persist.

After shot

Do I need to mention that these are all Raspberry pi 5’s
