Two-factor authentication failed : Incorrect OTP code

Hey Guys,

I’m having trouble logging into my webmin web interface. I first noticed my server memory was unusually low, so I went to go login and got this error message: Error - Access denied. The user has been blocked because of too many authentication failures. Then after following Andreychek’s recommendation, I tried logging in again several times but keep getting this error: Two-factor authentication failed : Incorrect OTP code.

I’ve always been able to login with my two-factor authenticator but not today.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Thanks in advance,
exius

What programs do you use? If it’s Google’s, check that it’s synchronizing the time well, it’s their main problem. You enter the application and in the 3 points in settings, there is something that says synchronize time. I don’t know exactly how it says it, but it’s something similar. And you try to enter the panel again.
I recommend you use Authy.
Greetings.

Hi,

Have a look at /etc/webmin/miniserv.users and edit the line for a user you have problems with OTP, replacing it from

root:x::::::::0::totp:AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA:

… to

root:x::::::::0:0:::

… and restart Webmin:

/etc/webmin/restart

After you login again, you would have to re-setup 2FA.
