Restricting sshd server to specific addresses fails

Let’s not assume the OP doesn’t know about static vs dynamic IP.

If only there were some other path into the server on another port.

Your provider doesn’t provide ‘kvm’ capabilities?

As I stated it was not for the OP in particular bottom line first comment I have made. The conversation has been edited and changed. But originally I believe Joe was alluding to this as well when he said providing you know what you are doing.

Funny thing I just asked not to long ago if they could add the feature to SSH and posted about ways of doing so without it being added Can we add option for SSH to only allow local connections but it would be nice to have it integrated to whitelist only specific IP’s just like they have for the other ports. I could be integrated as an upgrade I’d imagine fairly easily! I mean that is the point of this software to eliminate manual edits largely one software to handle all the moving parts of a server. Not that it is needed one could do everything manually just the same that the software provides. I just like web management it’s a more ideal solution.

I think the staff thought it was a bad idea… And now there is this question asking for the same thing!

Just curious. How would a full backup help you if you have locked yourself out and you don’t have an alternate safe way in to your server? How would you implement it?

Joe’s solution of keys maker the most sense.

Backup Backup Backup Backup one thing I’ve learned working is you can’t tell folks this enough! Yep it triggers some especially when things go south and they don’t do it and you say it again! But to be honest I dislike trying to do data recovery more than anyone all the time spent donor drive hunting and finding head combs for the model etc… So I will say it again always plan for plan B (Short for Backup!)

It’s relatively easy if you have a backup with virtualmin to restore everything! Yes! You could have your host wipe your VPS and get back up in running the same night from scratch to your most recent backup.

Install OS to VPS install VMin and then load backup! Done Essentially!
