Renewal reminder - Can we have one

I got an email saying my renewal had been successful. I would of liked to get an email 2 weeks before mentioning that my renewal was due.

If this happens, i have not seen it in my inbox.
thanks

We don’t support it at the moment, but we do offer a 30-day money-back guarantee.

We probably should, though. I’ll look into what needs to happen. I implemented it years ago with our maybe first ecommerce system, but I don’t think we’ve had it since…two weeks is maybe too far away (as a lot of people are billed monthly), but one week seems reasonable.

I don’t think we should send pre-due emails for monthly subscriptions. No other services really do that—they just send the invoice after payment. And, it’d honestly just be annoying.

I also prefer it when services notify me of upcoming payments. I’ve enabled a notification email five days before renewal.

Just want to point out that no other services do this for monthly subscription renewals—there’s probably a reason for that! We shouldn’t come up with custom ideas just based on personal preference.

Alright, and just to be clear—emails for manual renewals or failed orders are totally fine! Thanks!

Some services do, some services don’t. The reason they don’t is they don’t want people to cancel just before renewal, but we’re not trying to keep people subscribed just because they forgot to cancel. We’d like to make a lot of money, but I’d rather people be informed consumers of our products.

A lot of services off the notification email.

One of the benefits is that I can make sure there is money in the account and that I have the correct license for my needs.

All it should say is that in 2 weeks we will bill you for your annual license.

For me it is not about cancelling, it is about planning payment goes smoothly.

Just remembered people are on monthly. I am on an annual payment. Monthly and annual are different.

People on monthly should know, but those on annual should be notified.

We can’t choose behavior based on monthly or annual, either we send renewal reminders or we don’t…so I compromised on the five day thing.

Aah.

If you get bored add a flag on to annual records for a Boolean etc ..

The truth is, we’ve always sent a post-renewal email, and anyone who wanted to cancel—whether by just not renewing or asking for a refund—would have done it already. Given the long track record, enabling this additional email notification isn’t going to change anything.

The truth is, some services rely on users setting up subscriptions and then forgetting about them. We’ve never done that—every month, we’ve already sent users an email letting them know their subscription was renewed. In reality, only a very small number of people ever canceled because they forgot about the active subscription, and based on the records—literally just a few people each year.

That’s why my original point still holds: we’d now be sending two emails—one before and one after the renewal—which might just create unnecessary noise, especially for monthly subscriptions. @Jamie, are you okay with this change? To be clear, previously, we only sent a post-renewal email, and now we’d be adding a pre-renewal one as well.

Still, at the end of the day—sure, I’m all for being more user-friendly, don’t get me wrong here—but I just don’t want it to feel annoying either.

i think you are lumping yearly and monthly in one barrel.

for monthly your logic stands, but for yearly a notification should be sent out 2 weeks before so people can make sure they have money in the bank or even upgraded their package. I haven’t seen any info on how upgrades are handled mid-term, but I also have not looked that hard.

2 emails a month for monthly is too much, one saying you have been renewed is ok.

It is not the end of the world  not have a yearly reminder, but it is a nice thing.

Alright, I really dug into the problem, spent a few days on it, and just implemented a feature that lets users control email notifications for each subscription individually from “My Account → Subscriptions → View Subscription” page.

By default, we will send a notification email one day before the expiration date, but only for annual licenses. For monthly licenses, notifications are off by default.

Users can change and customize all of this for each subscription though.

And, we will always send the invoice afterward, and this cannot be disabled.

:folded_hands: Thanks, everyone, for the heads-up and for helping us become better!

It’s amazing thank you. Sure a lot of members will appreciate it.

Not looked at it yet but sound like it will fit everyone’s needs.

I would though, have the default for an Annual reminder set to 2 weeks, a day is pointless especially with time zones

Yes, you’re welcome! That was the goal—to keep existing users happy and provide new users with the option to choose whatever they wish.

Alright, thanks! I agree about the time zones; I will set it to 2 days then, as two weeks is impractically too long.

can i tempt you with a counter offer of 7 days?
