How do I get a module back in unused, that I've tried and deleted afterwards?

SYSTEM INFORMATION
OS type and version Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS
Webmin version 2.402

Hi,
I’ve tried postfix via Webmin installed it fiddled around with it, found it too time consuming for the moment and deleted it. I was hoping it would fall back to unused modules, as it is now in the back of my mind and I know I want to play with it again. How do I get it back into ‘unused’ to be able to profit from all the glory of a webmin setup instead of command line?

I have looked at the Available Webmin modules page, but can’t find it there either.
I have tried Refresh Modules with Postfix installed or purged (via apt command line).
I can’t find the installed.cache fille, neither in /etc/webmin, nor /usr/local/etc/webmin. In fact both directories don’t exist in my setup.

So as you can see, I did my research, the last thing that I did not try was the idea to:
apt-get install --reinstall webmin
because I’m afraid I will loose some of my precious and complicated setup of several very individual servers by now, running on that system.

Can I really do that without fear, or is there any other option to get Postfix back into the Unused Modules?

Thank you in advance!

Did you delete the webmin module or postfix ?

Hi I deleted Postfix via the Webmin panel. Webmin and all servers run still fine, I just miss Postfix in the Unused Modules’

Makes no sense. You have tried rebooting or restarting Webmin I trust? I can see it not leaving the server tab short of the --purge if it detected something.

So did you delete postfix or the webmin postfix module ? If you deleted the module, which I thin

sounds like a module delete to me

Yes I have tried restarting webmin to no avail.
I have deleted Postfix (the installation, I thouhght) via the webmin interfce. Don’t really know the differnce of deleting postfix or postfix module? And now it’s gone can’t recreate it.

I don’t think that was a good idea - I think I might be right and thinking it is installed by Webmin/Virtualmin and may even be “adjusted” to work.

Though I too am surprised it is not in refresh modules.

Always have backup(s) and documentation after critical changes.

I’m thinking this is a Webmin only install from the category and context?

I don’t see any means of deleting a module and it doesn’t seem the OP did that.

Sounds like an @Jamie question?

you can do it here

@DJHK if you used this screen to remove the module just re add it via the install module tab

They need the module first.

Your screenshot eventually led me here:

I think that is why there is a “clone” option and a Warning on the delete screen. still think the --purge was the mistake

I doubt the purge was a bad idea but that is my guess. It should have left NO trace of the postfix install so the module wouldn’t be left in some sort of limbo. It shouldn’t have touched the module which should sit outside the postfix install.

NO indication the OP deleted the module though, just postfix.

how do you delete postfix via the webmin interface ?

presumably, though I was also confused by the use of apt command line

Package manager.

Did you delete the Webmin module or did you uninstall Postfix the system package? (You generally should not remove core Webmin modules if you don’t want to see them, as they’ll come back when you upgrade the Webmin package. Just remove them from your users or let them live in Unused Modules.)

Hi everyone,

first I want to thank every single one of you for your quick replies. I have actually deleted it the way @jimr1 showed in his screenshot. I’d have hoped that sends it to unused modules. Didn’t.
I have now subsequently with your help installed it again with @ID10T 's link. Thanks for that.
It’s now in servers.

I stopped it, so it’s fine for me now, and I can live with that.
But it would be perfect if I could somehow ‘uninstall’ it back to unused modules.
I don’t really know how to ‘let them live in unused modules’ which is exactly what I would want to do. So @Joe I would appreciate it if you could point me to how I’d do that?

And yes, it’s a plain webmin install I have to admit, I tried to install virtualmin, but the warning, that I should only do that on a fresh install put me off. And here were the closest topics to my problem, when I did my research, so sorry if I’m in the wrong place, but your help already got me to a better place, than I was half a day ago.

You uninstall Postfix with the package manager as shown, NOT the Webmin module.

Or end up in unused modules which is what normally happens when you delete a package
