I’ve found the above post, that describes how to insert path into those exclude-backup textarea.
I would love to have only a single hint in this help-topic, like:
Put one entry per line, enter relative path from documentRoot like "public_html/toExclude"
Let’s bring @Ilia into the conversation. He manages the Authentic Theme which generates those nifty tooltip popups. Perhaps he can shed some light on things, and/or make the requested adjustment (if it makes sense)
I think, it acts absolutely the same as when set per-backup.

One per line, relative paths.
K, there only need to be an description in place, so that users can know it.
There shouldn’t be the need “to know how it’s on other fields” in VM and assume that it’s the same on the given.
On every Text-Field where you can input some free-text, there should be an description which scheme is needed here to be valid (e.g. comma-seperatet, one entry pre line, etc.).
That makes stuff easier - not only for new users.
