Wp workbench is back

debian 12
7.50.0 GPL

this is a system downgraded from pro. once again i have 5 sites that wp workbench is causing backup failures on. is the final solution to simply nuke the server and rebuild from backups? every time i remove wpworkbench..it somehow returns..even overriding the removal from features and plugins.

You need to show us the exact errors.

depends how you removed it (i think)
i remove using package manager
and according to this:

(hopefully) it will never return

That quote from Ilia is unrelated to this problem. That’s about the WP Workbench feature that allows you to check WordPress files for changes, which may (probably) indicates an attacker has changed files to perform nefarious acts.

But, you’re correct that removing the WP Workbench plugin package using your package manager removes it permanently, and should be all you need to do to make it uninvolved in anything like backups. If that’s not true, then it’s a bug we’d want to fix, but without exact errors (and details about how WP Workbench was removed) we don’t know where to start on reproducing it.

i removed it using apt on the server..and it returned…

What do you mean “it returned”? The package is installed again? There’s no way for that to happen automatically.

If something else, we need to see the exact error(s) that makes you say “it’s back”, because I can’t guess what you’re seeing.

no worries..there was an error where the backup failed(i have a previous ticket about the error) and the fix was to remove workbench..then now it had returned. as in i removed it..and then the errors came back..and when i check the package is back. I went ahead the formatted the machine JIC and made sure workbench was not present…
