Hello everyone, I wanted to know if the Webmin/Virtualmin panel is slow to load, I mean several sections, none load in less than 15 seconds, some take more than 30 seconds, when I add an account it takes 90 to 120 to create seconds, I have tried it with several systems.
Take advantage of the blackfriday offers and buy a VPS/Cloud on Colohouse (they bought from Turnkey Internet this year and they offer the same plans), I think maybe the server is oversold, that’s why the panel is slow?
SERVER/VPS:
8 CPU Cores, 16 GB RAM, 160 GB SSD
AlmaLinux8, Almalinux9, Ubuntu 22.04 (minimal, no desktop, no vnc, port 1gbps)
Slow loading even when doing the first configuration. I tried trial periods of other panels and those loaded quickly, almost instantly.
Maybe some configuration tips to make the panel load faster?
Could someone tell me how long it should take to load the panel pages and how long it should take to create an account?
There’s a bug-like in the current version (at least I think it’s still there), where if network is slow it can take a long time for the dashboard to load because it checks connectivity for the server.
Are all pages slow, or just the dashboard? If the former, it’s something else. If it’s just the dashboard, it’ll be fixed in a day or so when the new version arrives. (And, if it’s something else, it probably does indicate performance issues at the host, but you’d need to do a bit of poking around to get more data.)
I look forward to that update, hopefully it will be ready soon, so I can try again. The users’ web pages loaded a little slowly, I would say normal if you are not very demanding.
As I said, that is not related, and the update will not fix it. Virtualmin is not involved in serving the users web pages, that’s your web server (either Apache or nginx).
I apologize for the error in the previous message, I do not speak English.
Regarding the slowness of the webmin/virtualmin control panel, it is slow as I described in the first post.
And as you mentioned about the users’ website, I wanted to add that in this case it takes a little while, just a little, and if one is not demanding then everything is fine.
I’ll try to be more clear. The only thing that the bug I’m talking about effects is the Dashboard. No other pages in the control panel are expected to be slow (and that one only in some circumstances). The Dashboard is this page:
If you see any other pages being slow, it is not the bug I’m talking about, and you’ll need to look for some other explanation.
It sounds like you are talking about many things (maybe everything) on the system being slow. If everything is slow, it has nothing to do with Virtualmin. If specific things in the control panel are slow, it may be something wrong with the configuration of Virtualmin. If the specific thing that is slow is the dashboard, and nothing else is, it’s the bug I am talking about, which will be fixed soon.
You haven’t said if it’s everything or specific things.
But, generally, when I’m looking for performance problems, I want to check memory usage, CPU usage (and, specifically, which processes are using CPU), etc.
top or htop are the most popular tools for checking both at once.
You can run that in an ssh session or in the Terminal in Webmin.
You have lots of memory, so I doubt that’s it, unless you have really big sites under a lot of load. You also theoretically have lots of CPU with 8 cores. But, if it’s a VM, it’s hard to know exactly what else is happening on the system, and some kinds of VM are able to be oversold on a variety of metrics (e.g. they can fake memory, such that everybody is working out of swap, which is horrible for performance).
Hello, I changed to another server that is more modern and has high-performance cores, and now everything is fast.
So in my case, the conclusion is that although my VPS had a lot of memory, cores and a super fast disk, everything was oversold or saturated, which is why it was very slow.
I have stopped using this VPS:
8 CPU Cores, 16 GB RAM, 160 GB SSD Storage, 1Gbps Network Port, UnMetered Bandwidth
For this VPS, which although it has fewer resources, is faster, very fast.
6 High Performance Cores, 8 GB DDR4, 100 GB SSD Storage, 10Gbps Network Uplink, UnMetered Bandwidth
