Webmin- Cannot change webmin user access rights

Cannot change webmin user access rights
webmin/webmin users/ (select user)/ Permissions for all modules/

Will not save changes I make to
“Browse files as unix user”.
" **Root directory for file chooser"

Also want to restrict which servers a webmin user has access too, I can only control their permissions… but haven’t figured out how to control their server access to be limited to certain domains only.

|Usermin version |2.102|
|Virtualmin version |7.30.2 |
|Authentic theme version |21.20.7 |

Operating system Ubuntu Linux 22.04.5

That should be default behavior, when your create a virtual server and tick webmin access, the domain administrator should only see that domain or are you talking about something else?

What Im sort of imagining is that any webmin user can access either all the servers with all the assigned permissions… or only on selected servers with the assigned permissions. I wouldn’t want to restrict a server to only it’s administrator.

A admin user for a virtual server can only access and administrator one domain.
ie

To see what that user see you can login via Switch to Server Admin

and you should see this

and that user can only change things on that domain.
No other domain.

Isn’t that a bit of a security issue ? all you need is a compromised webmin user and your system could be destroyed. I create a new unix user & add them to the sudo/wheel group which gives that user access to everything

Yes, but so’s adding any webmin user, unless you are very careful with permissions any one of them can wreck the whole server. At least this way you can minimise the access to just a controlled group of domains. But ok, Stefan saying only one admin per domain. so its not possible anyway.

unless you add the extra domains as sub servers, they are then controlled by the same webmin user or if you buy virtualmin pro then you could use reseller accounts to achieve this

is that not justification to purchase (or perhaps set up separate GPL servers and restrict at root?)

Depends on how much work you want to do, with knowledge you can achieve anything but if you want something easy use the pro option

Anyway… the topic had two key points… the first one was an important error where settings weren’t being applied/ saved… the second point was desiring to have different security settings for webmin users. Hopefully at least the error can be fixed.
