Webmin 2.103 on debian 10 and debian 12.2 constantly demands user to login

SYSTEM INFORMATION
OS type and version debian 10 and debian 12.2
Webmin version 2.103
I installed from 2.103 on both debians. I have a linux user ID of 1001. I created a privileged user with unix authentication and selected all modules. the problem is that while I use webmin’s different modules (webmin, postfix for example) I am constantly requested to login to webmin. I can go to a postfix feature and change values and then select Save and I will be requested to sign in again. This takes me back to the webmin start Sys Info and I have to drill back down. I find that nothing got changed from the page I Saved. But I can enter the data again and Save and it might work.

This is happening on both debian 10 and debian 12.2 which I have working side by side.
I have done a good bit of searching and found nothing.

Anyone know what is going on and how to cure it?
thanks,

did you use webmin to create the user ? I tend to create the user on the command line (adduser) then add the user to sudo (usermod), the users created with that method work as expected. However I just tried using webmin to create the user adding the same parameters (secondary group sudo) using webmin → system → users and groups → create user and this also worked as expected

the linux userid was created on linux prior to installing webmin. then webmin was installed . then the webmin privileged user for the same name was created, use unix passwd, allow all webmin modules.

if the user is part of the sudo group everything works there is no need to do anything else, correct me if I’m wrong but you have a webmin user & a system user sharing the same username ?
All you needed to do was to add the linux user to the sudo group & login as that user

i agree. yes, when I setup the linux user it was put into the sudo group… so something else is not correct.

I have setup webmin on maybe 30 linuxes over many years… this is the first auth issue I have encountered.

thanks

my guess it’s something to do with the addition webmin user being created … maybe there has been a recent change in this section of the webmin code which is causing the issue, IDK but as I test I would create a new linux user and do not create/add a webmin user and see if that works correctly
