Webmail Subdomain Not Working / NGINX

Running on Ubuntu 22.04 - Virtualmin 7.5
I’m running this with NGINX, not apache

I can access my usermin / webmail via domain.com:20000 but webmail.domain.com is not working

First, i have checked if usermin is enabled for the domain, and it is.
Second, i have checked DNS - there is no DNS record for webmail. domain .com (strange i expected it to be created automatically) - what sort of record should i create there? A or CNAME?
Third, in the server template settings > website for domain : Redirect webmail.${DOM} is set to YES; URL for webmail redirect is set to use domain name.

How can i get webmail. to actually work?

Is your DNS for the domain all on the Virtualmin Server or a separate host?

A records are better as a CNAME actually requires 2 lookups.

Can you confirm that port 80/443 is opened and nginx is listening?

dns is on the same host. port 80/443 are open and working, everything is working as it should, just webmail subdomain is not (if i manually create other subdomains they are working properly)
