At present, it does not appear compatible with traditional hosting platforms and it seems that you can only build websites via 4 commercial site builders.
With the ability to own your own tld, is there an opportunity for Virtualmin to lead the pack on hosting these sites/domains?
“Web3” means some kind of crypto/blockchain thing.
We don’t care what domain names you use or how you manage the DNS for it. We have no interest in implementing blockchain/crypto stuff in Virtualmin or Webmin, but there’s nothing stopping you from hosting websites for web3 domains.
Never heard of it before, some googling and found this comment Web3 hosting is the process of hosting and providing decentralized websites on the infrastructure provided by Web3
Isn’t Virtualmin a centralized hosting?
Maybe you can explain more how it can work with Virtualmin!
Blockchain-based web3 stuff will likely never be compatible with the standards-based internet in the sense that you can expect anyone to be able find you based on the name. Blockchain is just such a cumbersome and expensive way to do anything, that it’s unlikely to ever be mainstream.
Just to clarify for those who may be wondering, there is the WWW or World Wide Web that sets on top of the Internet. There are the versions 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0. We are currently using 2.0. 3.0 will be 100% machine readable.
The concept of Web3 is entirely different and appears to do with more anonymity because of using some sort of blockchain mechanism. It appears that the Web3 would ride upon the Web 2.0 or later. Its benefits are questionable at this stage and appear to favor only a relatively small group of players.
