Warning! Webmin has detected that the program ...

I get this SECURITY WARNING when I login.
Could this be caused by he backup module that I have set up
to back up to Amazon S3 buckets ?

The message below gives me two options - but
I don’t know which one I should implement :o

Please help.

Warning! Webmin has detected that the program https://65.23.129.163:10000/mysql/view_table.cgi was linked to from an unknown URL, which appears to be outside the Webmin server. This may be an attempt to trick your server into executing a dangerous command.

If your browser does not send the Referer header needed, you can turn off this check as follows :

* Login to Webmin normally.
* Go to the Webmin Configuration module.
* Click on the Trusted Referrers icon.
* Check the Trust links from unknown referrers box, and click Save.

Alternately, you can configure Webmin to allow links from unknown referers by :

* Login as root, and edit the /etc/webmin/config file.
* Find the line referers_none=1 and change it to referers_none=0.
* Save the file.

No. That doesn’t make any sense. What would your backup destination have to do with referers?

You should implement neither. You should figure out why your browser isn’t providing referer information. Do you have some sort of proxy or security product installed that would prevent your browser from providing referer data?

What browser are you using?

Are you trying to browse to the URL directly without actually logging in and browsing there via the menu?

Thanks for your reply.

I am using Moz FF.

Maybe this started happening when I clicked on the
"yes - remember my password" in Firefox.

And when I close Firefox I usually don’t log out, I just
save all the tabs so it opens quickly when I start over again.

( Thats because I usually have about 10 tabs open )

I will start logging out and see if that solves it.

Will reply here.

Thanks

And when I close Firefox I usually don't log out, I just save all the tabs so it opens quickly when I start over again.

Saving your password isn’t causing that, it’s this part with the tabs.

Firefox is taking you back into the middle of Virtualmin, but Virtualmin is complaining because it doesn’t know how you got there, since it doesn’t pass any referrer headers while it’s just starting up.

You don’t have to bother logging out, but whenever you get this error, just hit reload and you’ll be prompted to log in again.

Hi, I have the same problem with Firefox (not with Safari). Even if I refresh the page the warning still remains.
And in Virtualmin I do not find any Trusted Referrers icon.

Howdy,

You can disable the Trusted Referrers check by going into Webmin -> Webmin -> Webmin Configuration -> Trusted Referrers, and changing the check from “Yes” to “No”.

In my Virtualmin I do not see any Webmin Configuration -> Trusted Referrers (please see image)

I know this question is old, but I found out why this happens. So, if someone else has this problem, just enable “send referrer” in your browser, and this problem will be solved.
