i’m on irc channels that haven’t had any activity in months.. and most irc channels for foss projects i’m interested, change very rarely.. what’s your “changing every minute” irc experience?
I think IRC will make a come back. Also woltlabs forum software is unbeatable. Shame they not use it here. You can also use Blab integral. All private. Then again, I am out of touch at the moment.

That’s not true! The forum is readable by anyone, regardless of whether they have an account. Discord is not. You can’t read a Discord without being logged in.

I don’t see any evidence of IRC making a comeback. I liked IRC in its day, but the channels I followed just kept getting smaller and more insular and trending older over time. No new users were showing up, everyone knew each other, and there was often a bit of condescension when new users did show up. I’m trending older and I can come off condescending sometimes, too, so I understand where that comes from, but I’m unaware of any motivating factor that would take IRC off the course I saw it on a decade ago.
I do strongly believe we should have openly accessible communities for Open Source projects. Discord is bad for communities, designed to lock users into a closed ecosystem. IRC, at least, can be, and sometimes is, open with web archives.

Tell you another thing is how opensource has been so abused by those who take the foundation of programs then when developed they use it to make money, happening all the time. Give them a year or two, then bam, pay for extras. Makes me puke. Either do something original and close the code but not off others backs. The list of business making money off open source is no doubt huge. EASY money. And makes you understand how money is a root of evil. If not THE.

Crazy. Yeah. Its like that Chelsea football owner, russian but how did he get his cash. Stole it. With OS though it can be a bit more subtle. Even MS Explorer and Edge, it started with something called Mosaic. Apple OS started with a unix / linux distro called NEXT I think it was. When I think of it I am ashamed to be associated with a lot of stuff these days. The majority of the foundation and start of the internet has become corrupt.
Take overs as well, when you got the cash… the world at you feet, but what does it profit anyone who gains the whole world and yet … I once heard B Gates say on a talk show that those given much, much is expected, he had the audacity to liken MS and his personal wealth with the Bible, and the crowd worshiped him, I was so sickened. Look at Musk. What a reprobate and apparently the richest man in the world, thankfully I am who I am.
