Hi, I’m testing out Virtualmin Pro and encryption keys function. For the purposes of this post, I created a “burner” encryption key and encrypted a full 1 domain backup through scheduled backups. When I try to restore it using the schedule menu and the same key, I get this output:

Checking contents of the backup …
… found 1 virtual servers

Starting restore of 1 domains from local file /path/to/backup …

Extracting backup archive files …
… backup was not signed with key E1BF831067C43E6E238894163A7F3A2045847D03 :

gpg: encrypted with 2048-bit RSA key, ID 3A7F3A2045847D03, created 2024-07-22
“burner burner@domain.tld
gpg: Signature made Mon Jul 22 13:05:15 2024 CEST
gpg: using RSA key E1BF831067C43E6E238894163A7F3A2045847D03
gpg: Good signature from “burner burner@domain.tld” [unknown]
gpg: WARNING: Using untrusted key!

… failed! See the progress output above for the reason why.

I tried changing key lengths and removing keys through virtualmin as well as cli and re-creating them, but the issue persists. On the off-chance that some related service got hung up, I even rebooted the server but it didn’t help. Toggling the option to let domain owners use the key also does nothing to help the situation since I’m the only admin on the system. Any ideas what else I can try? Thanks

I opened a ticket for this issue and Jamie helped solve it. In case anyone comes across this post, the issue is with gpg output on Debian 12 which causes a bug in Virtualmin and it will be fixed in the next release. Thanks everyone
