Virtualmin 8 domain transfers messing user Authentication

SYSTEM INFORMATION
OS type and version Alma 10.1
Webmin version 2.621
Virtualmin version 8

After transferring a domain from an old Rocky 9 VMin server upgraded to 8 to a new Alma 10 server with fresh install of VMin 8, user authentication is broken.
Most obvious way to see it s to select a user then Login to Usermin.
It stalls for a while, fails with a red error message:
An error occurred listing mail in this folder: Failed to login to IMAP server :2nd_place_medal: [AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Authentication failed.
Meanwhile left menu only has an Inbox.
Then it asks for password to login. Eventually it comes up showing mail but still only Inbox. Browser refresh then show other folders.
Plus email clients get stuck too.
You really need to try it to get a bgetter understanding of the problems.

If you go to “Webmin ⇟ Usermin Configuration: Usermin Module Configuration / Read Mail” and set “POP3 or IMAP server name” option to “Run Dovecot command”—does it solve your problem then?

We should have this option to be enabled by default. We will fix it in a couple of hours.

This issue was fixed in the latest Virtualmin Config 8.1.1. For those who have already installed it, you need to upgrade to the latest virtualmin-config package first and then run:

virtualmin-config-system -i Usermin -i Virtualmin

Shouldn’t that show in dnf update?

Is it in current fresh installation?

I did the Read Mail change - fixed it, then later saw virtualmin-config show up as an update and applied it.

Got curious, restored a backup from before I made any changes, so virtualmin-config is back tp 8.1.0.1 and Read is back to “localhost” but now dnf update doesn’t see the new version of virtualmin-config . Has it been removed from the repo?

And it’s back again.

still need to run virtualmin-config-system -i Usermin -i Virtualmin
