I have always like the uservoices style of user suggestions where people can vote up stuff they want.
I find this helps user engagement and allows the non-programmer to put a vote on something they want. Not everyone does GitHub issues (I should know, lol) and also this stops a suggestion getting lost on an old forum thread.
This is almost free market research
This could replace the blueskies section on the forum.
You could give Pro users more points to vote with.
I am sure there are opensource versions of uservoices out there, I could look around if you guys are interested.
A former employer used to operate PHPBack - but this ship looks abandoned meanwhile (but still works, though I wonāt recommend deploying on a prod environment).
What is wrong for the staff to use discourse polls ? If this was added there is no work for staff and tbf dead simple to add. Why do you need a third party?
these discourse polls are siloāed and cannot be compared at a glance against others discource polls.
If you use a uservoices then you can see which feature request is most popular, how many people want this and also users can move their votes about if they change there mind.
The fact that there is an easy to read leader board is great.
This site is āuservoicesā. The problem isnāt user input per se but the number of users that regularly use this site. The software works well enough that most users either NEVER come here or VERY RARELY come here. The voices here are indicative, but not necessarily representative, of the installed user base.
If the staff feels an idea has merit, it wonāt end up forgotten in some old thread. If it does, maybe thatās because thatās where it belongs?
But this if it goes to a third party to validate the input data this puts an extra amount of work for the user, this may be fine in a desktop environment but as I use a mobile phone for this, I hate running off site to input data so normally ignore links like that
Iām missing the point then, I thought you ment it was to be added to this site rather some addon for either webmin or virtualmin products. If you mean an addon for the install I would forget it
With that, we could make a category for feature voting, and then every post can be voted on (like reddit) and it could be sorted by Top, so the ābestā idea rises to the top. I think thereās probably more stuff needing to be sorted out, but maybe this weekend Iāll see about installing it on our dev instance and tinker with it if I can find some time.
You need to keep the discussions in separate threads, otherwise this gets messy fast. 2-way links? Might not be bad if you can get community support to keep them up.
Oh, youāre right. I thought that was about topics being votable within a category, but on second look it seems to be about replies within a topic. I guess Iāll keep lookingā¦
