Update visual style of "Delete and Apply" button on Edit Bootup Interfaces to be RED instead of BLUE

I wonder how screen readers see them. Is it not simply about altering the css code and/or inserting some white space / space-around, between the buttons?

You’re making a straw-man argument (Google it) because I’ve pointed out three specific UI/UX issues that when taken in combination, help explain why the screen in question is dangerously designed, substantiated by two instances of separate technicians accidentally deleting an interface. That’s not invalid, that’s fact.

Now out of the three issues, I’ve already said (If you can read… I suspect not since you didn’t read pictures correctly let alone follow the conversation…) that I feel that the biggest issue is the colour and visual appearance of the button because I suspect that is what is causing people to click on it most, more than any other factor - Even though the other factors aren’t great UI/UX design either. (The fact that people travel over the button to get to Save is what’s causing them to see Blue and then click prematurely, basic common sense - But if you fix the button colour, it’ll probably resolve itself.)

Now, if you’re going to get up in this thread and say “It makes perfect sense to have a Delete button be Blue, closely resembling an Apply Configuration button, and as an exception to all other Delete buttons in Webmin which are Red” then it’s clear you’re all tip and no iceberg and I’m not going to bother debating with you - It’s simply not a rational position to take.

As an aside, though irrelevant because this thread is clearly angling for a specific solution unrelated to this at this point: Virtualmin already prompts users for confirmations in certain scenarios, questioning user decisions. In fact, all software does this, even apt does it when you install a package with dependencies, or do something potentially destructive. This concept shouldn’t be foreign to you, that you pretend this is a novel idea smacks of amnesia.

So, you have now changed the original 5 times. I can’t access the original. Only the revisionist version.

The button says delete and apply.

Yes, and elsewhere in the interface even Delete and Apply buttons are red because red is being used as a visual indicator of delete-like actions, universally. There’s even screenshots in this thread showing and substantiating that elsewhere Delete and Apply buttons are red.

On other screens, particularly in the Network Configuration section, Blue is used primarily for Apply Configuration buttons and buttons of similar non-destructive functionality. In fact, on the screen directly prior to accessing the Edit Bootup Interface screen, there is such a button that follows this style. (And a Red Delete and Apply button)

So what’s your point? There is none, we know it’s a Delete and Apply button, the fact is it is completely inconsistent with the other Delete and Apply buttons also.

There are posts above from before you commented where I clearly state that I feel the button colour is primarily the issue, after some discussion with other people who are actually contributing constructive feedback as to how to best resolve the issue, whilst still acknowledging that yeah, there’s an improvement to be had here. Unfortunately you seem more eager on defending obviously bad UI, denying that humans can make errors, denying that software design should anticipate the risk of human error, and pretending that it’s novel for software to confirm prior to doing dangerous actions - All of which is irrelevant at this point because as I’ve been saying for many posts now, I feel the issue is the visual theming of the button, but by all means, keep arguing stuff that isn’t relevant.

This software has evolved over a few decades with user input. Each and every change is greeted with people angry a change was made. Your first post is ‘I made a mistake so it is the interface’s fault for not stopping me’.

But, at this point we have two assholes that can’t be wrong going back and forth I guess.

Irrelevant because there’s money involved here and if Virtualmin want more business money, they need to maintain an awareness of how businesses view risk. Knowing that Virtualmin has poor UI/UX that not only fails to prevent, but actively contributes toward human error is not a risk businesses will want to take, and is a fast way not to make money. This is why this kind of feedback matters. Reducing risk of human error is 100% part of good software design, and will help make Virtualmin more successful in the long run.

You’re not far off with this assessment, but I’d correct it on two points:

A) I’m not the person who made the mistake, I’m the one who had to fix the mistake, which is why I’m annoyed. But upon reviewing the situation, I understand why it occurred, and how easy it is.
B) The interface didn’t stop the mistake, but more importantly illogical design decisions appear to have contributed to it.

But yes, we are indeed two assholes arguing over something instead of just agreeing that “Yeah, if all the other Delete and Apply buttons in Webmin are Red, then it makes sense for this one to be Red too so folks don’t get confused - Because humans do fuck up.

You have a fair point about the color. Colors are important. Green GO red STOP (now what is caution). Its pretty basic stuff.
Why is this such a big thing. Alot of words over such a small thing.
Maybe its a trump thing

The last line of that post should probably be removed. We need to do some self policing here.

possibly, but I think @stefan1959 is refering to the red had not the politics.

it was AMBER (orange) when I last drove past a traffic light

Stick to bootstrap conventions/colours.
