Hi all, long time no see!
Hope you’re still doing fine!
Just a simple question to the dev team: can we please have built-in Passkey support?!
If this is already on your to-do list, I’m very sorry for being impatient. Please don’t kick my ass!
Nice! Very nice!
I’ve already implemented it on clients’ websites, and boy oh boy, it saves me so much time helping people regain access to their backends—which they visit once every few years to change a single line of text. It’s wild that not everyone uses a password manager…
macOS has it built in; meanwhile that spyware/malware-adjacent company “Mayosoft” (creator of Windblows) once gave us “Recall,” which grabbed screenshots and—at least in early builds—raised big concerns about how easily that local data could be accessed. So if they ever ship a system-wide password manager, I half-expect the passwords to end up in a user folder as a plain .txt file.
There are really good Linux distros for gaming nowadays! Some ship with Steam out of the box and have excellent support. If you’re into retro gaming, try Batocera—you can set up Steam easily and never have to boot back into Windows again. I removed Windows from my gaming PC and haven’t looked back!
We are getting off topic here, but i am happy to help you setting that up, if you want to loosen those chains of microdot. Just spam me via the private messages
I’m sorry, my friend, but I did not want to make you upset, but please familiarise yourself with the stuff we are talking about before ranting in rage about it and yes, I already confirmed that we were getting off topics so I moved that conversation somewhere else.
Aren’t we people are allowed to have fun sometimes in the weekends. Yeet…
In general passkeys support would be a good idea. It’s standard with a bunch of different implementations, typically tied into the OS’s biometrics support or PIN or something. So we don’t have to necessarily agree if Windows is better than Mac to add it as an option..
You’re absolutely right. Let’s go Passkeys—then everyone can decide for themselves if they want to make life a lot easier. I’m betting on 90% adoption. If I’m wrong, I’ll send the dev team a crate of Dutch specialty beer—that’s a real promise. You can hold me to it!

But when it comes to “Windows vs. macOS vs. Linux/Unix” (or even Android vs. iOS), there’s no universally “better” OS—everyone has a favorite. My point was more about how much telemetry Windows collects these days. Honestly, why are so many of us running Linux servers (e.g., for Virtualmin)? Because Windows can be heavy on resources. And yes, macOS, Linux, Unix, and iOS all borrow from each other and rely on plenty of open-source components—that’s not a bad thing.
What bugs me is paying for an OS that also hoovers up user data. Windows isn’t cheap, and then users “pay” again with their data. Something to think about. And remember Windows XP? At launch it didn’t even have a firewall enabled by default, and nope also not so much, telemetry… Before installing BonzyBuddy of-course. —very different times compared to today’s telemetry-everywhere world.
