The Edit in Webmin Tool/File Manager/Edit doesn't work well with escaped characters

Hello,

I’m using Webmin 2.102, Chrome 117.0.5938.149, MacOs 14 (if this last info is relevant).

When I edit a Tomcat config file with an escaped content (please check the attachment), the “edit” capability in Webmin shows those encoded characters in a wrong way:

While, as a reference, the NANO Linux command show it correctly. I mean it shows all the source characters that perform the encoding.

I guess this is some kind of bug that can be corrected. Or isn’t it?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

This issue is already fixed in upcoming Webmin 2.103 release.

I could not find how to attach the source file. Here is the image:

Really? Cool! Not only I didn’t expect a response as fast as yours, but didn’t imagine this to be a recent bug that could be scheduled to be corrected soon. Actually I don’t know since when this issue occurs.

Thanks!

You can take a small risk and manually install latest Webmin 2.103 release from Webmin GitHub repo, to get functionality you’re looking for right now, without waiting.

It is not that urgent, I guess I will wait instead. But when is it going to be officially released? I’m using Ubuntu 22.04.3

We unfortunately cannot give you any ETA. Sorry.
