Some of our users spread across multiple domains appear red in the Edit Users list view. See screenshot.
When you try to login as Usermin, the login fails:
imap-login: Disconnected (auth failed, 1 attempts in 17 secs): user=<>
No more authentication is possible and email bounces.
What does this red mean next to a mailbox?
The user in red indicates that the owner of the virtual server has disabled login for the user. This is done via an option in the Edit User screen. You could click on one of your red users and see the Edit Users screen in which you will be able to check / uncheck the disabled login option.
