What would be the best way to go about getting a site set up for someone that is looking to move to a new host?
Scenario, I have a local club that is hosting their Wordpress site with like go daddy or someone. I have offered to host the site for them(since I am in the club). We don’t want the current site to go offline.
Would I just stage the site as a sub domain and then cut it over to the live site?
Unless you need someone other than you to see it, you could just add it to your hosts file on the original name.
If you do need others to see it, create it with the original name, but then create an alias of it with some other name (a subdomain name makes sense). That way you won’t have to change anything other than DNS when it’s time to switch.
