Reverse DNS or PTR Record

I cannot seem to create a PTR or Reverse DNS record that publishes to the internet, especially to the satisfaction of Comcast. I have tried several different models to create a reverse record for 216.145.246.6 and 215.145.246.5

Our name servers are Webmin: NS1.marketus.net and NS2.marketus.net
We just switched from Men and Mice DNS Management Software.
Other aspects of DNS seem to be running fine on Webmin/Virtualmin, but PTR records are not successful.

cerberus.marketus.net should reverse point to 216.145.246.5
and
mail.marketus.net should reverse point to 216.145.246.6

Could a kind soul do a dig or two and coach on what we haven’t done correctly?
We have a /29 block of IP addresses, perhaps our Reverse Zone doesn’t correctly identify this. We have it starting with 216.145.246.1/29 – maybe we should have started with .0?

Howdy,

First, a quick note that if you mark your forum post as private, there’s only one active user in the forums who will see it – and that’s me :slight_smile:

I’d recommend not marking those as private when possible.

However, regarding your question – in general, most servers wouldn’t be setting their own PTR record… normally, you’d call your provider, and have them set it.

PTR records are typically controlled by the ISP who also owns the IP addresses associated with them.
