Redhat 5 Enterprise: Failed to detect operating

Hello
I receive the following error when I try to install virtualmin on Redhat 5 Enterprise.

What should I do?
Thanks
Pol

What’s in /etc/issue ?

That’s odd – it installed just fine on RHEL5 server I used recently.

I see. We’ve never had anyone install on the desktop version of RHEL, so we aren’t detecting it right.

I’ve updated the OS detection file, and I believe it’ll pick up the OS correctly now.

Try it again, and let us know what happens.

Joe

Thanks for the responses. I tested it with new downloads. Unfortuntely it does not work. I shows the same errors as below.

The content of /etc/issue is also the same.

I am going to install Redhat 4 enterprise.

Thanks

Hello

I downgraded to Redhat 4 AS Enterprise. It works perfectly. I restored even a virtual server backup. It works.

Thanks for reponses.

Regards

Pol

Oh, egads. Don’t downgrade to RHEL4!

I’ll fix it, I’ll fix it!

Mmm, looking at your output there, it appears as if it was able to detect your distro/version okay.

Here’s what I would do – try running the installer a second time, just to make sure some sort of network glitch didn’t hang things up (it’s happened!).

But, if it errors out again, take the file in /root/virtualmin-install.log, and open up a new support ticket (the Bugs and Issues link below), and attach that file to it.

Thanks!
-Eric

Eric’s covered the obvious cause, and including the install.log in a ticket is probably the next step.

Also, if continuing the discussion in the forum, start a new topic. This thread is completely unrelated to your problem (as Eric mentioned, your OS is obviously being detected correctly).

Hi guys, I just tried installing on RHEL 5 x64 (running in a VMWare VM if it matters), and got the below. I manually ran the yum command as root and all the rpms installed fine, so I assume it’s something else in the script. Is there some detection code I should just hack?

Thanks
