Problem in ps --cols 2048 -eo user:80,ruser:80,group:80,rgroup:80,pid,ppid,pgid,pcpu,rss,n

SYSTEM INFORMATION
OS type and version debain 12
Virtualmin version 7.7

problem in ps --cols 2048 -eo user:80,ruser:80,group:80,rgroup:80,pid,ppid,pgid,pcpu,rss,n

I don’t know why, a whole new server
Enter Process Information, it shows me (This process is no longer running)

I hope someone solves my problem

What commands do you reckon Webmin runs in order to show you a process list? (hint: the command to list processes in Linux is called ps)

Dear Joe

This is a picture when it shows me the details of the process. This process is no longer running

I hope to solve my problem
Waiting for a response, thanks

What problem are you trying to solve?

At a guess the 300% cpu usage of the ps command

but I am probably wrong  , if this is the case perhaps the OP should supply some hardware details as well

@Jamie, is hide_self also applied to this Webmin process? I think we should also exclude it, so not to make users confused.

This is the process that is used to generate the page your seeing. The fact that it’s not running is actually expected, because it’s getting finished right at the moment the page is shown. We just shouldn’t show it at all (by default at least).

No, we don’t hide that process. I am very surprised that it’s consuming 300% CPU though, unless there are a lot of processes on your system…

Dear @Jamie

Cc: @Ilia

The system is new and virtualmin is also new, a new full server

I do not know the reason for what is the problem and what is its solution?

Maybe a buggy install, never seen that on a installs Ive done (and I’ve done quiet a few), but I use centos type OS’s.

Dear @stefan1959

The problem is that all sites have now been moved. It is currently working live with visitors. It cannot be reinstalled :frowning:

Can you provide more complete screenshot? I’m also interested if you’re still seeing this process?

Besides, do you see any indication of excessive system load by going to the dashboard or running top or htop command?

Dear @Ilia

@Jamie, I think we should all hide this process!

It is not a problem! We’ve been trying to explain that you are seeing the process that lists processes. It only runs for a brief moment. Your system happens to be slow enough that it was visible longer than usual and using more CPU than usual. But, there is nothing to solve! I don’t know how else to explain it.

The rest of the discussion between Ilia and Jamie is about whether Webmin ought to hide that process from the list in order to make it so folks who see it (which rarely happens because it indicates a quite slow system, maybe with low memory so it requires swapping memory) don’t panic.
