Is there anyway of telling which SMTP software Virtualmin is attempting to use - Sendmail was pre-installed with my OS, I then installed Virtualmin followed shortly after by Postfix.
I’m wondering if Virtualmin is attempting to use Sendmail (it shows the Sendmail Started/Stopped etc) and if it is updating Sendmail configs rather than Postfix.
If this is the case, how can i force virtualmin to use Postfix (or vice versa).
I’d prefer to use Postfix (it seems to be the package of choice if/when i upgrade to Pro), but sendmail delivers mail correctly so i’m reluctant to remove it until Postfix is working.
ok i finally got it working - i removed everything (sendmail, postfix, Virtualmin etc) and re-installed it all.
It was definitely caused by Virtualmin defaulting to sendmail - after re-installing Virtualmin i found an option to change the smtp server.
Joe - I think you’ve got a fantastic system here, but like all things Un*x/Linux it sometimes very complex for us mere mortal, could i suggest you have a “Mission Control” page, detailing all currently used server services and options to restart them etc.
If I could have noticed Virtualmin using Sendmail rather than the package I wanted, it would have saved me days of headbashing.
It has a right content section showing versions of everything (along with quota usage, number of domains, etc.).
Holler if this isn’t what you had in mind. We’re designing a new theme that’ll be even better for this sort of thing…but we want to make sure we get the bits that people are after in there.
