Package updates All installed packages are up to date

Hello,

These past few days on Thanksgiving day I’ve noticed package updates. One of the updates was for the kernel. I was occupied that day for me to actually run the update and decided I would do it later in the night. When I finally got around to it, the package updates and notification were gone in webmin/vritualmin.

I thought maybe the updates were removed from the repos for whatever reason and Webmin refreshed to show no updates. Fast forward to today and I received an email from Webmin about package updates; the same updates on Thanksgiving. Upon logging into Webmin/Virtualmin earlier today, there are no updates at all showing, not even when checking in the terminal. Here’s are the supposed updates:

An update to almalinux-indexhtml from 8-8.el8 to 8-9.el8 is available.

An update to kernel from 4.18.0-553.27.1.el8_10 to 4.18.0-553.30.1.el8_10 is available.

An update to kernel-core from 4.18.0-553.27.1.el8_10 to 4.18.0-553.30.1.el8_10 is available.

An update to kernel-devel from 4.18.0-553.27.1.el8_10 to 4.18.0-553.30.1.el8_10 is available.

An update to kernel-headers from 4.18.0-553.27.1.el8_10 to 4.18.0-553.30.1.el8_10 is available.

An update to kernel-modules from 4.18.0-553.27.1.el8_10 to 4.18.0-553.30.1.el8_10 is available.

An update to kernel-tools from 4.18.0-553.27.1.el8_10 to 4.18.0-553.30.1.el8_10 is available.

An update to kernel-tools-libs from 4.18.0-553.27.1.el8_10 to 4.18.0-553.30.1.el8_10 is available.

An update to pam from 1.3.1-34.el8_10 to 1.3.1-36.el8_10 is available.

An update to python3-perf from 4.18.0-553.27.1.el8_10 to 4.18.0-553.30.1.el8_10 is available.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any insight is appreciated! Thank you!

You presumably have automatic updates enabled. Webmin will (eventually, depending on how often periodic tasks like this are being performed) see that they’ve been installed and won’t offer them anymore.

That’s actually what I thought as well; that the updates were updated itself and that’s why they weren’t offered anymore, but that was not the case. I checked by rebooting the server because in order for the new kernel to be displayed, a reboot is necessary. Upon rebooting I’m still getting the 4.18.0-553.27.1.el8_10 version and also same version is being shown when running command uname -r.

did you run dnf upgrade?

Yes. The following is the output:

Dependencies resolved.

Nothing to do.

Complete!
