OS Upgrade Concerns

I have just finished installing Virtualmin 3.70 on Ububtu 8.04 (Hardy) and things went very smoothly. Now I would like to upgrade Ubuntu to 9.04 (Jaunty) but I am concerned whether this might cause troubles with Virtualmin. Since Virtualmin is specific about the OS version needed for the initial installation, I winder if upgrading Ubuntu may expose me to ongoing problems.

Hey there Jonathan,

I’m glad you asked! As I highly recommend against upgrading to 9.04

You can see the supported OS versions here:

http://www.virtualmin.com/os-support

That goes for both new installs, as well as upgrades.

The latest officially supported version is Ubuntu 8.04, which happens to be an LTS release, meaning it’ll be supported for some time to come.

Virtualmin also has a package repository for 8.04 – which won’t work if you’re using 9.04.

So my recommendation is to stick with what you have now – and only to upgrade once Virtualmin announces support for a new Ubuntu release (which is likely only going to happen for the next LTS Ubuntu version).

Just yell if you have any other questions. Have a good one!
