No warning of dnf error suppressing update

hello all -

this is minor, but i thought it might be worth mentioning.

on my webmin interface, i thought it was peculiar that i had not seen an update notice for several weeks. Usually they happen every few days.

So I went into CLI, and sure enough, when i typed “dnf -y update;” there were errors blocking dnf.

it appears that webmin cannot determine that dnf was failing. i may be wrong, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

side-note: ever since i installed the latest webmin/virtualmin properly, its been performing flawlessly. i have been a decade-long fan of virtualmin/webmin, but i have never had so few issues or problems since the latest install. this is great!

Webmin dosn’t fix errors in a dnf update, that what the system admin does :slight_smile:
I’ve had a few lately too, the suggested fixes at the end of the dnf update fixed the problem.

i did NOT think that webmin would “fix” the issue. but it might be nice if webmin alerted me that “dnf -y update;” was not working.

Not sure what you mean, you should see the failure when you do the update.
Do you mean a email.

You could setup a schedule update and get a email report when failed

No, when I click webmin update, it just kept showing “nothing to update”, no indication of anything wrong. Everything is working as expected now.

@edwardsmarkf Thanks for reporting this! It’s quite a serious issue! We will fix it for the next Webmin release!
