New website header

  • This new header is great. I especially like the current version is in the satellite.
  • Good to see the Robot (who looks like an alien and still needs a name)
  • The menu at the bottom I am still to be convinced about (I note it does go to the top on scrolling)
  • however a much better look, very modern with a hint of playfulness.

I do thing you should hit the branding with the robot as it could become very recognisable.

I found an issue.

Go to http://forum.virtualmin.com and click the Login button. In my case, it redirects me to the Virtualmin — Open Source Web Hosting Control Panel page instead of the login page.

I was able to reproduce the issue using different browsers and network connections. Fortunately, I am permanently logged in on the machine I am using to write this post.

Isn’t still a name? Still needs another name? Still needs renamed? Must Still be restricted to one name?

How about Webminster (a historical-sounding, authoritative pun on Webmin)

That’s what it’s supposed to do (note the sso token in the link)? I mean, if you’re logged into Virtualmin.com, it should send you back here rather than give a login page. If you aren’t logged into Virtualmin.com it takes you to the login page.

These are two different sites, one running WordPress (mostly), and one running Discourse. Users are authenticated by WordPress and shared via SSO with Discourse.

But, also there have been no code changes in single-sign-on in years. This is just a front page redesign Ilia did a couple weeks ago. So, if there are bugs in SSO, they’ve been there for a long time (and I’ll need more details to troubleshoot).

Enabling FrontCloud is a big change. It could break absolutely anything. Still, I don’t see a problem, since the behavior is just like it always was.

Oh, right! Forum isn’t behind Cloudfront, but Wordpress is now. But, login seems to be working for me.

to the admins, this thread has has gone off topic  and the robot still does not have a name.

And the new header is still a massive improvement.

is the robot for Virtualmin or Webmin?

What about Victor the robot who is from Alpha Centauri

Nah, I don’t like this name for a robot.

How about * Minion or Minimo?

Minion would run in to copyright problems and is a thing and not a name.

Minimo sounds like a name and can be shortend to Mo for affectionate reference.

Is he still from Alpha Centauri he needs a back story, lol.

A single name isn’t protected by copyright as far as I know. Minions characters and their look, artwork, etc. are protected.

Mo is a cleaning robot in WALL-E.

What was the name of that old cartoon of an alien that visits earth in his little spacehip and befriends a human family and causes loads of problems? I searched the net the other day but no joy.

was it this guy

Close but not the guy I have in my mind
Annoying when you cannot find something eh! Let me search again.

there is also Alf

Nah, its a cartoon, like loony tunes.

His spaceship was a bit like this, he was a odd character …
