I’m using Firefox. Hate Chrome ![]()
Do you hate Chromium too?
Sometimes. Very often, to be honest. Waiting for Ladybird
I like Chromite as a chrome based system, its very nice and has integrated ad block. I think chromium is a little limited, Chromite takes it further - with the ver3 changes to Chrome and not allowing ad blocking, Chromite is a nice alternative. Just wish it still supported Android 9 on the phone because it was an all round great app for virtually windows, linux and Android up to last month.
I mostly use Brave on my Mac for development these days. It’s got a simple design and doesn’t have many features. If there were official signed builds for Mac, I’d probably use Chromium instead. I used to use it when I had a Fedora Linux Desktop.
does edge not have a Mac version?
Yes, there is a version of Edge for Mac. However, it’s almost twice as large as Brave, and I guess you know why.
i actually use brave..which is chromium without all the privacy googly parts removed…firefox has gone the data sharing/selling route now..as per their own blog. and brave has all the ad blocking built right in.
I used to hate Safari, but nowadays it’s great for everyday use. Add to dock feature creates site-specific “web apps” that open in their own window with isolated cookies/storage/permissions (sandboxed), proper Dock icons, and working notifications. Moreover with iCloud Private Relay enabled it routes traffic, hiding your real IP and DNS with region-appropriate exit IPs.
For development, though, I still use a Chromium-based browser!
i use it on occasion on my mac…![]()
I have used Firefox for years on PC, getting annoyed at how the commercialisation is affecting it.
Ladybird is interesting, too many “new” browsers are built on Chrome etc, a fresh start could be quite good.
Open to suggestions for use on PC.
It seems like big investments are a must for this project, right? Or are they planning to use one of the existing engines instead?
Also, why is it considered a bad thing to have a single well-working engine like Blink? Developers can rely on it too, which makes things much easier.
And, I don’t think the engine itself is the issue, right?
<about chrome, not chromite>Not for a long time. I have Android 4.7.*, and Chrome hasn’t received any updates for this system for many years. The same will happen with Android 9, but later.
</about chrome, not chromite>
They have "fixed " it already. But not for a long time.
It’s no big secret that the Mozilla Foundation relied on Google for cash flow for many years. The result was the loss of its independence — a one-way road.
Yes — this is how today’s modern web functions: mainly Chrome clones and Safari, with small percentage Firefox
