Moving servers on AWS

I’m planning to change my current setup on AWS to up the RAM. I went through the migration process on https://www.virtualmin.com/documentation/system/migrate and had a question if the following method would be possible.

  1. Create a new AWS instance and simply use the old volume from the old instance on the new AWS instance.

I think the changes would be the IP config (to the untrained eye). Its simply swapping a hard drive from one server to another, would this be a good practice or should do the method in the documentation.

Hi,

Yes, sure, why not.

I am confused? If all that you need is to add more RAM, just add more RAM at AWS control panel, you don’t need to migrate anywhere.

I think the changes would be the IP config (to the untrained eye).

I bet allocated IP address shouldn’t be tied to a server and as well, must be easily migratable.
