.mhtl format...how does this work?

Hi guys,
havent seen this before, but microsoft word is capable of exporting documents as web pages in .mhtl format.

How can this actually be used on web pages?

My attempt at simply copying a webpage of this format into public_html and renaming it index.html for example, ends up with a lot of rubbish…not what i was expecting.

My quick wikipedia research of .mhtl formats is as follows…

MHTML, short for MIME Encapsulation of Aggregate HTML Documents, is a web page archive format used to combine in a single document the HTML code and its companion resources that are otherwise represented by external links (such as images, Flash animations, Java applets, and audio files). The content of an MHTML file is encoded as if it were an HTML e-mail message, using the MIME type multipart/related
