I have used successfully virtualmin until now, but unfortunately we had a burglary. I have lost forever directories /etc and /sys. I am able to rebuild the system, but is there a quick way to restore the configuration virtualmin without these directories. I found the directory /var/backups, but I do not know whether the files contained there in some way may help. If you need to pay for the quick restoration of this, I am ready to do so. Priority is time. Please help
If you have the backups of your Virtual Servers available, you should be able to get most things back.
After you rebuild the server, and you have Virtualmin working – log into Virtualmin, and go into Backups -> Restore Backup, and have it restore your various Virtual Servers and settings by pointing it at the directory you have those in.
No, I don’t have any backups. I was wondering that virtualmin is creating backup it self. I don’t create any backup from virtualmin. Is it possible from other source. I have all files from drive without /etc folder…
You’d actually need to configure Virtualmin to perform backups, it doesn’t do so automatically.
So if you haven’t configured it to make any backups, there wouldn’t be any
Are you using Virtualmin Pro or GPL?
Without the /etc directory, all the Virtualmin metadata would be gone – Virtualmin wouldn’t know what user data was there, and who it belonged to.
You’ll likely need to re-create the Virtual Servers, then copy the /home directory data back. You should then also be able to re-import the MySQL data.
If you feel as if you’d like assistance in re-building your server, you could always post a request in the Jobs forum.
Of course, you’re welcome to post any questions you have here as well
If you’ve lost all of /etc, MySQL databases are the least of your worries. You won’t even be able to safely reboot or log back in to your system if you don’t have /etc. The single most important directory on your system is probably /etc…without it, your system will be utterly crippled.
