I disagree. I think the suggestion to delete/restore the virtual-server was a good suggestion ā no, it was a GREAT suggestion.
Here was the original problem, and I quote:
āmoving an email to any folder ends up in the wrong folder ā¦ when i select the new folder to move emails back they still go to wrong folderā
And when someone tried to information-gather, the response was āthatās irrelevant.ā
So, I think to myself, hmm, how should I answer, how can we solve this and prevent future issues with that virtual-server?
ANSWER: āPAVE OR NUKE AND RE-CREATE OR RESTORE!ā
It seemed to be the only logical suggestion when a conversation is not allowed because itās deemed irrelevant.
I am deeply (cough) sorry for possibly causing them to have to start from scratch. I myself have actually learned many things over the years by starting from scratch. The suggestion to ārestore from backupā was doubly-good because you learn how to RESTORE (something I didnāt know for a long time) or you learn to MAKE BACKUPS if you donāt have them (also something I didnāt do for a long time).
I also learned to not tinker with my server, thus allowing me to have no issues with my Virtualmin dedicated server for year now. I know some people are bothered with me saying this, but āevery 5 years I lease a new server, install the latest Debian, migrate Virtualmin data from the old server, change DNS, and go 5 more years without issues.ā
I think the only issue Iāve had in the last 15 years was some Dovecot config file with errors because Iāve migrated so many times. So I wrote a script that runs on startup to fix itā¦ but other than thatā¦ nothing. With other control-panels I had to reboot every night to solve instabilitiesā¦ but with Virtualmin I just reboot every 30 days. One time, after a migration, I forgot to configure the reboot and it ran for 6-7 months before I noticed. I probably didnāt need to enable āreboot every monthā but I still remember āthe olā days.ā Maybe the next time I migrate Iāll stop rebooting altogether and see how long it goes for fun!
Virtualmin has made my āweb-hosting lifeā SO MUCH EASIER than other control-panels that would eventually crash my machine. I strongly encourage people to purchase a Virtualmin PRO license or make a donation. I canāt imagine how much frustration I would be facing without the set of Virtualmin/Webmin/Usermin tools on my server.
