ok, i know this is a choice when starting a clean install

but is there any way of going back (without total destruction of the VM) and just changing the webserver choice. I know you cannot have both - that is not what is wanted.

you can do it, but it is slightly involved, as long as you know about the command line to install & configure stuff also know how webmin/virtualmin works (under the hood).
This problem I have done but it was not that easy, that said you could write a script to automate it

nice to know - but sounds even more complicated than a simple destroy and reinstall from scratch. it is not helped by the machine is managed on an external supplier (Hostinger) who seem to control everything (hostname, DNS, etc …)

never used them however I would be surprised if you could not alter the domains name servers to point to a dns server running on a webmin installation (domain settings). I have come across VPS suppliers that dont allow you to change the host name (VPS settings) .. tbf I have no idea what settings would be in etc

no - configs are totally different plus if you know how both runs - its no.

There’s always a way. But, it’s harder to do that than make backups, start fresh, and restore backups.

that was the end result (far from ideal) i simply went with a more reliable VM supplier that i had previous experience with. :man_shrugging:
