Is it necessary to install pgAdmin4 for use with Virtualmin licensed version

SYSTEM INFORMATION
FreeBSD version 14.2.63
Virtualmin version 7.30.8 gpl

I’ve installed PostgreSQL and am running Virtualmin latest gpl version. I expect to upgrade to the licensed version in a few days. I am already running PostreSQL 16. Virtualmin looks like it is already set up to manage postgre, but Freebsd recommends installing pgAdmin4. Do I need it?

Need? That’s up to you and your comfort level doing the db admin duties without it.

EDIT: I guess this is why the old version of the software went unmaintained? Said something about a complete rewrite.

Thank you. If it is not a prerequisite for Virtualmin, then I am fine with out it.

Virtualmin used to offer pgAdmin as an optional load under the available web scripts section but discontinued it because it required an unmaintained version of PHP. I guess no one used it regularly enough to notice it had been reworked. Now they can add it back but it becomes a question of ‘does anyone really care?’ since the rewrite went unnoticed for a few years.

No. Webmin already has a PostgreSQL management UI in the PostgreSQL module in the Webmin->Servers menu, and if appropriately configured, Virtualmin can provide access to databases owned by the domain owner user to that user in a menu in Virtualmin.
