Is "Freedesktop" needed in Ubuntu 22.04?

SYSTEM INFORMATION
OS type and version Ubuntu 22.04
Webmin version 2.021
Virtualmin version 7.7
Related packages Freedesktop

Excuse me if this is a naive question:
After installing Logcheck which filters out most routine syslog messages, I noticed a lot of entries about updates from “org.freedesktop”
Is Freedesktop actually needed for Virtualmin?
Since it runs on a headless server, there is no desktop … ?

@Joncas,

It’s possible the app uses common libraries used by it. You’d really need to reach out to the script developer though.

You need to show us exact messages. I can’t even guess what you’re talking about.

But, I will point out that freedesktop.org is the parent organization behind systemd and D-bus (and a slew of other core system libraries), which is core to every modern Linux distribution. So, yeah, you should expect to see mentions of it sometimes on any Linux system.

Hello Joe,

You are right, it must have to do with updates for d-bus:

I was baffled by the word “desktop” in the logs!

Many thanks for the clarification!
