Hi
I went back to my original post but it is already closed so here is part 2 of the story.
As a long time user of VirtualBox I tried to use it to install ubuntu onto my Mac but it is a beta version so in the end I gave up.
Searching the web I found UTM which is a virtual machine specifically made for apple products and it installed easily to the mac and then allowed me to install both Ubuntu Desktop and Server versions. The main problems were about getting Ubuntu to recognise WiFi and keyboards but that is all now sorted. [Actually, the WiFi is still not working but the virtual machine appears to have set up a direct “Ethernet” connection to the Mac and is piggy backing the internet connection there which just happens to be a WiFi connection. I will still try to get it to recognise my Broadcom chip at some stage but for now it works and gives me internet access].
Once I was satisfied with the virtual machine I went to the Virtualmin site and downloaded and ran install.sh via the terminal window. I may have had to install curl but I cannot quite remember now.
My Mac architecture (ARM64) was not listed but despite this and the notice telling me it would fail, I tried it and it installed successfully. The system information above is taken from the installed Virtualmin dashboard.
I have also installed pgpmyadmin and wordpress successfully.
Before I get too excited, there are a couple of nigling issues (but I will post about these later). The prime purpose of this post is to ask if there are any specific tests that I should run to confirm that the installation is sound? If it is, the ARM64 architecture could be added to the list of acceptable installation environments.
