Well, officially, Virtualmin doesn’t support Intrepid yet.

However, I’d suggest filing a ticket in the Bugs/Issues Tracker, and then they’ll know folks are interested in that

I’m also having issues, not the same though…

8.10 will never be supported.

We only support LTS releases of Ubuntu, as the lifecycle of non-LTS releases is too short for servers.

I wish I knew about this before upgrading to 8.10 from 8.04!

Hey Joe,

I know you said "8.10 will never be supported", does that still stand for today?

And what do you recommend when people upgraded to 8.10? Reinstall 8.04?

Thanks,

Chris

I’m afraid “never” really means never.

Again, regular Ubuntu releases just have too short of a lifecycle for use on servers.

There may come a time in the future where Ubuntu is popular enough that I feel compelled (and have the budget for) supporting even non-LTS releases…but I will always strongly discourage their use.

As for what to do with a system that you upgraded…well, I don’t think downgrading in place is possible (or advisable). So, if a reinstall of 8.04LTS isn’t a huge ordeal, that’d be the way to go.

Otherwise, you can just treat it like a manual installation of Virtualmin. This puts more responsibilities on your plate, but it’s not an impossible situation–we all used Virtualmin that way for the first two or three years. It’s just more work for you.

Actually, I will mention that I discovered something about Debian and Ubuntu recently that should make supporting new versions of those systems somewhat easier.
This might mean I’d be willing to setup a repo for other Ubuntu releases and call them Grade B supported systems (i.e. fully supported by the installer, but discouraged, and not usable with installation or other premium support services, because of issues like short lifecycle and less stability…Fedora is in this category).

No promises on that count, though…I’m still fighting with Debian 5.0 support.

Sorry for the double post (Has no clue why it happen)!

I just may setup a new server and install 8.04 on it and transfer configs/data over to the new server with the old dist.

Me manual installing it? I may break things even more! haha

I think I’ll take the easy route until you put up a repo.

Note to self: Upgrading is not always a good idea! lol

Thanks,

Chris

Don’t worry about the double-post, this forum is nuts and has a mind of it’s own

Regarding upgrading – before upgrading or changing distros, I’d definitely check with the OS Support page below to verify that it’s supported.

Sometimes even when distribution support is planned, it can take a couple of weeks between when a release occurs, and when it’s supported by Virtualmin.

Have a good one!

Ubuntu Server 8.10 isn’t fully supported yet. It works great with 8.04 though.

I wrote a how-to handbook at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1197883
It covers installing Virtualmin, Webmin & Usermin on Ubuntu Server 8.04 LTS.
