I was thinking about puting a minecraft server up for a friend. Its not very dificult to install the minecraft server on Ubutu or Debian but I was wondering if the Virtualmin team would consider adding it as an install script.
Would be nice.
I don’t know anything about Minecraft or running Mincraft servers, but Jamie made a Webmin module for it many years ago when one of his kids was big into Minecraft. It’s apparently seen an update more recently from another maintainer.
That doesn’t answer the “install” question, but maybe of interest, anyway.
We haven’t had any other requests for it, but if it’s simple to install it’s more likely to be a possibility. That said, I searched for “minecraft server” and it’s not clear to me what one is supposed to install. What is the URL for installation instructions and download? Is it Open Source? (And, not merely free…we generally don’t do proprietary stuff for a variety of reasons, even if it’s freely available, and even if source is available. If it’s not something we can distribute without hassle, we don’t want to deal with it.)
you could use this Minecraft: Java Edition | LinuxGSM_ or Minecraft: Bedrock | LinuxGSM_ they have been around for years and has an active development team. I run loads of steam games (sourcemod) and the only way I could get a web interface was to code my own which also includes an install method but as I said it’s for sourcemod games only
Minecraft is owned by Microsoft so it isn’t opensource even though it is free to use.
Being that it is a Microsoft product it makes sense to just stear clear of it I guess.
