Install hangs on Scientific Linux 6 in VMware

Install on Scientific Linux 6 in VMware

Fresh install, base server selection.

Scientific Linux release 6.0 (Carbon)

The install seems to hang at “INFO - yum -y -d 2 install virtualmin-base”

After a bit I’ll give up (i waited an hour the last time) and ctrl+c, but I’m sure that hoses the install.

Any thoughts as to why? or what I can do to get a complete install?

Thanks

Welcome to the Virtualmin GPL installer, version 1.0.5

WARNING:

The installation is quite stable and functional when run on a freshly
installed supported Operating System, but upgrades from existing .wbm-
based systems, or systems that already have Apache VirtualHost
directives or mail users, will very likely run into numerous problems.
Please read the Virtualmin Administrators Guide before proceeding if
your system is not a freshly installed and supported OS.

This script is not intended to update your system! It should only be
used to install Virtualmin, on a supported OS. If you have previously
installed Virtualmin via this script or the GPL version of this script,
upgrades and updates should be handled within Virtualmin itself. Once
Virtualmin is installed, you never need to run this script again.

The systems currently supported by install.sh are:
CentOS 4 and 5 on i386 and x86_64
Debian 5.0 and 6.0 on i386 and amd64
Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and 10.04 LTS on i386 and amd64

If your OS is not listed above, this script will fail. More details
about the systems supported by the script can be found here:

Well, note the list of supported OS’s that shows up near the top of your script output

Scientific Linux is unfortunately not supported by the installer yet… you can see the list of supported OS’s in the output above, as well as at the URL here:

http://www.virtualmin.com/os-support

The good news, however, is that Scientific Linux support is on the way! I suspect it’ll be ready in a few weeks.

So, keep an eye out, that should be available soon

-Eric

Well duh to me, I thought I’d read it was supported but I see on that link you sent it is not.

Thanks

Actually I was able to install virtualmin by modifying the oschoser script or so, just for testing purposes.

What I actually wonder is why your script didn’t stop right at the beginning. It should have …

Yeah, I’m not sure why it hung, that’s kind of odd.

I’m glad to hear you got it working… and keep an eye out for Scientific Linux support, it should be here soon!

Once it is, you’ll want to setup your virtualmin.repo file to use the Scientific Linux repository that’s setup on the Virtualmin servers.

-Eric

Let’s assume he got a newer version of the script that runs on SL, then he most likely ran out of memory.

Actually the install.sh is the one from the GPL link on the download page.

Over all the test install didn’t work anyways, had some odd issues. For example, PHP taking twice the memory as centos 5 and virtualmin didn’t act right either.

It looked like it was working but things just didn’t, named was one that it said it configured then when i went an looked why DNS wasn’t working the named files were missing, never figured it out.

So I rolled back to Centos 5 for the moment.
