I remove my domain in the host file to fix a problem. Will this cause other problems?

Operating system: Ubuntu
OS version: 20.04 LTS

My website was always showing the Apache Ubuntu default page when accessing example.com. But www.example.com, admin.example.com, mail.example.com, webmail.example.com were all work normally. So I thought probably the cause is that Apache is treating example.com as 127.0.0.1, which I haven’t set anything to listen to. Then after I commented out that line in the host file and restarted the Apache server, the default page gone.

I’m not sure if this fix will cause some other unexpected problem. Does someone know is it safe?

Is the hostname using the same domain as a public site?

Richard

Yes. After I changed that, I still could see the hostname and IP displaying normally like example.com (127.0.0.1) in the dashboard.
