Hi everyone, I’m new to the forum.
I wanted to ask you the following, I have successfully installed Virtualmin on a VPS 1core/2gb RAM/50gb SSD, I wanted to know what comes next in terms of security, to avoid hacking and things like that. Thanks.
CentOS Linux 7.9.2009
Linux 3.10.0-1160.76.1.el7.x86_64 on x86_64
Webmin: 2.001
Virtualmin: 7.2
Usermin: 1.860
Theme: 20.01.1:5
RAM: 606.76 MiB used / 349.53 MiB cached / 1.79 GiB total
Disk: 3.18 GiB used / 46.8 GiB free / 49.98 GiB total
Processor information: DO-Regular, 1 cores
Running processes: 111 to 114
If you haven’t done anything with the system yet, I would recommend you install on a newer distribution. CentOS 7 is quite old at this point. It is maintained, and will be for some time, but if you’re trying to run modern PHP apps on CentOS 7 you’re going to have third party repos for newer PHP versions, which will have much shorter lifecycles than the OS itself. I recommend you run the latest supported version of your preferred OS.
Rocky 8 or Alma 8 would be my recommendation (9 of both is also supported, but only barely, we have done almost not testing).
Hello, thanks for your answers.
You are right, I will do a fresh installation, I think I will use Ubuntu (before I have only used Centos and Ubuntu, I know little)
Rocky is the replacement for CentOS. It is built by the same people for the same reasons CentOS existed. After CentOS was acquired by Red Hat, it became something very different, so Rocky was launched. If you’re familiar with CentOS, you’re familiar with Rocky.
