How to set up Reverse DNS (PTR) entries

Hi,

I noticed any of my mail is getting to hotmail accounts.

I checked into http://www.intodns.com/tresjolie.com.ar

and I’m told:

ERROR: No reverse DNS (PTR) entries. The problem MX records are:
211.236.15.199.in-addr.arpa -> no reverse (PTR) detected
You should contact your ISP and ask him to add a PTR record for your ips

I tried several ways to add reverse DNS entries into Bind via Webmin with no luck.

This really needs to be done by my ISP?
I manage my own dedicated server and I have Bind set up.

Best regards,
Carla

Howdy,

Yup! Your ISP would typically handle reverse DNS for you.

You would handle the regular DNS using BIND, but reverse DNS is normally done by your ISP.

It’s usually just a quick phone call or email to them, and they should know exactly what to do to set that up.

Some providers (like mine) also have a function to configure the rdns in the customer control panel.

Hi,
Thanks I contacted my ISP and they told me they are going to add the reverse record.
I’m still waiting but I guess it takes 48hs to update!

Thanks for helping!
Carla

It can take a while, yep, since PTR records often have a high TTL (they don’t change too often).
