How to configure Virtualmin for a MySQL server on a separate host.

Hi everyone.

We’ve set up a file server and database server separate from our web servers so that we can do a high availability cluster. What do I need to do in Virtualmin to get new databases set up on the database server? There doesn’t seem to be anything in the server templates or Virtualmin configuration to do this.

Hey,

I used the following page to setup a dedicated SQL host:-

https://www.virtualmin.com/documentation/id,running_mysql_on_a_remote_system/

Just to know if two servers are not hosted in same DC there will be no real advantage and the loading time will go up. How much? Depends on the connection between the two servers.

I would have to disagree with this statement in regards to it offering no real advantage. It all depends on why you are placing the database on a dedicated server.

It could be that you have a real powerful server you intend to use as the database back-end which can provide a real performance boost in place of running it on the same hardware as the web server.

Yes if the two DC’s have a crap connection and located a fair distance apart you won’t see a “speed” benefit in regards to the requests going from the web server -> database server and then back.

Regardless of the connection speed of each DC it will never be as fast as two servers sitting in same DC. To offload the server and moving the DB to another server is something i didnt questioned.

But with today quality of SSD DC edition and raid 10, the DB need to be huge and the website to have daily visits measured in tens of thousands to get any real benefits. Not knowing what is the situation with OP is hard to talk what is the best solution. Only thing i can be sure is the lost of speed in case two servers doesnt sit in same DC.
