Sorry, I pointed you in the wrong direction. Ilia’s suggestion is correct. We apparently have two ways for things to go wrong. You don’t need to change anything, that’s all fine.
per both of your suggestions… did not change anything Joe suggested… just verified all correct info. Applied llia’s suggestion. Still got error:
Service Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
Still… 2 out of 5 domains/virtualmin servers working okay… the other 3 get that above error.
This is odd don’t you think?
Where are you getting that? That’s not a Webmin error. (I mean, that is not an error that can come from Webmin.)
Whether your domains work is wholly unrelated to whether Webmin/Virtualmin works. Webmin has its own web server wholly independent of Apache or nginx.
It’d be best to track an unrelated issue on a new topic. We’d need to see the error_log for the problem domains to solve that one.
so do you want me to issue new trouble ticket posting the error_log files of the 3 domains? what error_log file would you like me to post?
Yes, a new topic or PM (depending on whether you’re posting anything sensitive, or just prefer it to be public or private) would be better than trying to track multiple unrelated issues together.
And, the error_log for the problem domains is what we’d need to see. Just the relevant lines; i.e. make a request that fails, and grab the line(s) related to that failed request. They’ll be at the end of the log.
Why would it not come from Virtualmin/Webmin panel… it is a server control panel, right?
Created via Virtualmin and was working on OS 20X but not on OS 24X
so, what config file would control such an error for the Apache apt ?
where would you look?
I created a public new ticket by the way.
thanks
Because that’s not an error that the web server in Webmin is capable of producing. That string of words does not exist in Webmin. So, it had to come from somewhere else.
It is an Apache error. Webmin does not run under Apache. So you had to be browsing an Apache website, rather than Webmin/Virtualmin.
I’m just trying to keep up with which problems we’re trying to solve in which threads, and trying to keep each topic focused on one problem. I get confused easily, I need to be able to scan through the thread and get my bearings each time I respond. If a thread is about more than one problem, I have a hard time with it. I’m sure others are better at multitasking, but I know more about Virtualmin than most, so I try to keep things in the forum happening in a way I can handle.
Edit: Er, actually, maybe it’s a browser message? I don’t know. If it’s a browser message and you were trying to browse to Webmin, it’d just mean Webmin is not running or otherwise unreachable. I’d need some clarity on that, if it’s the case. I dunno. It’s definitely not a message that Webmin can produce, though.
That sounds about right… I agree… but again, doesn’t Virtualmin control the Apache and other server apps config files… I see them in my menu options listing…
I must be wrong or missing some information here.
Yes, it does that. Virtualmin edits configuration files, and sometimes has reason to stop/start the services it manages. It does not, however, share a web server with your websites. A website being down is wholly independent of weird menus in Virtualmin, and we need to talk about them separately or I’m going to keep getting confused and unable to help.
I did systemctl restart webmin
after I applied your string code…
still the one and only one… lol… my main billing domain… that figures… is down with this odd error… and what about the users… how come the backup system did not restore them? Maybe I issued wrong vituralmin backup and did something wrong on the restore… but yet… all other domains came up okay… but they also, were missing the users on their domain’s …
OK, please, is there a new topic about your main website that is down? Does it have the relevant error_log entries? Can we continue the conversation on that topic?
Joe, howdy…
This is still from troubleshooting the original issue’s of OS Ubuntu server upgrading.
and what has happened…
We have I presume, to have fixed many issues along this ticket path. If I steer everyone somewhere else, then we would have to continue to link this ticket to it.
Normally Joe, I agree with you on that one point. If this was a new and off subject topic of OS and panel control… then I would start one… I am just confused right now about the functions of
Virtualmin/Webmin ???
Oh, gods. I’m so confused. None of those are things I thought were what this thread was about.
We don’t have anything to do with server upgrades; that’s an Ubuntu thing, and we don’t have any control over whether upgrades of Ubuntu work or not.
An in-place upgrade wouldn’t require you to restore backups, though, so I don’t know what we’re talking about, as you mentioned backup restores above.
I thought we were talking about menus being messed in in Virtualmin, but scanning through the thread there’s at least five other problems that are unrelated to that. I continue to not know what I’m trying to fix. I need to focus on one problem at a time.
Doing my head in too, this thread is beyond being useful to anyone.
Would it be an idea to delete it and start fresh?
ME2 - Are we just seeing the same problem being posted in different topics? under different titles and getting nowhere. I can see the frustration of the OP. But for those trying to help, getting bombarded with so many topics that appear to be the same underlying problem - is a sort of turn off.
I need multiple topics where there are multiple unrelated problems (as there are here), but I need each topic to be about the individual problems. I’m getting confused because there are several unrelated problems, but they’re all mixed up together.
okay… let me itemize the situation and get back to you…
end this now…
thanks
Let’s just take on one thing at a time. Set’em up and I’ll knock’em down. I can solve just about any Virtualmin problem you have (and I want to solve your Virtualmin problems!), but I need it to be concise and about one specific problem. I understand you’re having a lot of difficulties. But, when taken individually there’s probably nothing too terrible to deal with.
