okay, I need help…
first of all… it has been months paying for pro license services and I STILL DO NOT HAVE A SERVER ONLINE…
so, I have reformated all my servers hard drives and installed OS 20.X UBUNTU SERVER on them and followed steps to install virtualmin/webmin on the first one.
Ip addresses :slight_smile: 208.104.147.194 and 10.0.0.21
I can access ONLY internal 10.0.0.21 now… but external DNS is correct with info, however, I go to ping that address and do not get a hit… that is first issue…
2nd is that I made my main domain its default server domain, thenetwave.net … was I correct to do that okay? because now I have a user called thenetwave and can not log in with root… but I do have 1 user I can log into server with… a general one I put on all servers for tech support internal useage.

so, today. I pay monthly Virtualmin/Webmin Pro and WHMCS and do not have any products online.
Investment so far this year is over 200 dollars for nothing…

So, what do I do? ANYBODY THAT IS ACCOUNTABLE TO company business about Virtualmin…

Before I had the newest version of ubuntu OS… but there were issures, so I did a fall back to a known working version… but, hey… there is a bug somewhere… in somebody’s code… and I have now proved it is not in Ubuntu OS and not in WHMCS code… The only thing left is Virtualmin code is buggy…

So, how can I help you help me? What do you need of me. I am out of business right now so I can give you full access to any of my servers… no big deal…

Thank you.

so let’s find out how you set vmin up
Is this in a data center or on a home network ?
if this is a home network have you opened the router so remote connections can connect to it ?
if it’s a data center I would engage with them .
I would assume you have given root privileges to the user thenetwave ?
You have to remember Virtualmin/webmin just configures the software that is installed to your liking, it does not make any changes to the core OS, so a bug in Vmin/webmin would be contained to the services/applications it has set up on your behalf, however if you are unsure on how a linux environment works you may alter things that are a bit ‘off the wall’ so let’s calm down and walk through the problems and see what the community can help with

Just testing for you, I get a wordpress default site when I click on the link to thenetware.net, so it appears to be working for me.

Possibly an issue with your firewalls?

Have you opened a ticket with pro support?

Is that free support when you have a pro license with Virtualmin… I have not applied my license to this server yet.

If you can see the basic site, then when you add :10000 port to the website, do you get a Virtualmin login screen ??

I am a Global Computer Network Analysis Engineer with 50 years of experience and I am certified with all OS’s and hardware and even Cisco…

I own and have my own datacenter here at Deep-N-Woods Plantation in SC … I am the only engineer working with Dell servers. I have 2 racks of them boxes… and a ton of others… If anyone is interested in playing with remote systems access and setups, etc… to learn with… I don’t mind… after all, I am spending tons of money doing nothing now a days, and my family is all laughing at me… they say I am a fish out of water… here deep in the woods of south carolina… lol

Anyways, before March this year, and the previous version of Virtualmin, all worked great… I had whmcs and virtualmin up with 12 website domains. mail was flowing perfect after I configured goggle to tell them I was a real email server service… then all worked great. but something happened… it is the same os ubuntu… I was running then, so I have that installed… it is the same whmcs code… I have not installed that yet… but, virtualmin is now a new version… I wonder if I can download a old one… nope, it is remotely installed by Virtualmin script … and the script seemed to work… I can log into virtualmin on local network… non real ip … but after installing Virtualmin, I can no longer even ping my external ip address… and all other ip’s addresses ping just fine… and I tested all this before I installed Virtualmin… and all checks where verified working… before and even the last couple years, I thought it asked what ip nic board we wanted to use and share ip with all other domains… this time it did not ask me much of anything. it just took off, asking only a couple questions…
I can not long into virtualmin with root… never added password for root… ops, was I not supposed to say that… ha ha. the Chinese already know me… I was a professor at one time and tought hackers how to hack… but I am not perfect and forget more than I know… lol.

okay, got you and thanks for reminding me… I will fill out and submit it here within the hour. looks like another all nighter… fun fun fun… lol

hey, wow… it is all of a sudden working now better… very odd… maybe students or customers or family yankin my kickstand… as us bikers would say… and Virtualmin just completed successfully a update. check out my uploaded pic.

And this screen is with Ubuntu Server os new version…and what I was experiencing… and NEVER in 4 years have I ever had this happened. is why I am pointing toward the Virtualmin code, somewhere, is issue…anyways, take a look… have you ever not see all the menu options, logged in as root or master user??? I have not…

If you submited a ticket you best hold tight and wait for a response. With time zones people could be sleeping. I really don’t like the fact you don’t know root password. So you can’t putty on and sudo commands?

I just set one about 1 hour ago… just another test on panel and os… works great… sorry forgot to tell y’all…
We are on EST time here in SC…
Thanks…

This seems too easy but I have made a new privileged user and forgot to check the Available Webmin modules and logging in with that user did exactly that.

Works here for me, I see your wordpress website and I can get to the Virtualmin log in page.

On a side note I think you need to take a deep breath, if you do have 50 years of experience you would know I sever responds to a ping with no OS on it. So its not a Ubuntu or Virtualmin issue.

Then why does Virtualmin crash when new version OS is upgraded to? If what you are saying is true, then the OS upgrade should have NO EFFECT on the operations of Virtualmin. right? And we are strickly talking about OS Ubuntu 20x to 22x upgrade. I have yet, no matter how, to get virtualmin to work on 22x like it worked successfully on version 20x.

Virtualmin hasn’t crashed. Something broke the config file for the root user (or whatever user you’re logged in as). I’ve seen this come up a couple other times recently, but I don’t think we know exactly why it happens.

I believe at least one case happened because the system shutdown abruptly (without waiting on services to shut down cleanly), which shouldn’t happen, but also it probably is indicative of a bug somewhere in how config files are opened/closed on shutdown. I think Jamie and Ilia were looking into it recently.

Since you upgraded the OS, I presume there were a couple of reboots during that process…that makes me think maybe this is that same issue.

BTW, it’s easy to fix.

Browse to Webmin->Webmin->Webmin Users->root

Click Virtualmin Virtual Servers in the Available Webmin Modules section.

Make sure Can edit module configuration? is set to Yes.

And, make sure Domains this user can manage is set to All domains.

Save it, and see if the problem persists.

Anyone seeing this issue, try to apply the following patch and see if that fixes your problem.

Also, don’t forget to restart Webmin after applying the patch, by running systemctl restart webmin command

RHEL and derivatives:

cd /usr/libexec/webmin/virtual-server && curl https://github.com/virtualmin/virtualmin-gpl/commit/2e2f87b6b954043aeea49f09ff9ffcb442b6199d.patch | git apply --reject --whitespace=fix

Debian and Ubuntu:

cd /usr/share/webmin/virtual-server && curl https://github.com/virtualmin/virtualmin-gpl/commit/2e2f87b6b954043aeea49f09ff9ffcb442b6199d.patch | git apply --reject --whitespace=fix

only thing that jumps out at me is the options blocks are all unchecked. Is that okay
